Designer and craftsperson from The Orkney Islands, now practising in Glasgow. Graeme explores the tension between past and present in his work as he is compelled to both preserve and innovate traditional craft. His work often combines familiar materials and methods from his training as a furniture maker with experimental forms reminiscent of worlds and objects we imagine for ourselves through the lens of science fiction.

Studio Gilbert was established by Graeme in 2017 while working in London and has since moved the practice to Glasgow where he continues to work on bespoke commissions, prototyping, teaching and research. This merging of traditional and modern materials, methods and forms have become of particular interest to Graeme as a way of creating new and hopeful futures in both local and global settings.
